Mockups are marketing tools companies and individuals can use to advertise products, brands, services, ideas, and portfolios. This allows for the ability to take large complex ideas and condense them into a simple and beautiful display. This is typically done using a program called photoshop, as well as photoshop documents called PSD files.
What makes PSD mockups so convenient is the ability to customize them with your own design by using a feature called smart objects. By double clicking the smart object's image box under the layers panel, it opens a new window with the smart objects canvas, where you can insert your own logo or design, and it automatically displays it in the original mockup after saving.
It can be very time consuming creating a scene for your project to be displayed on. Which is why pre-made scenes and mockups are so helpful for designers because it significantly increases workflow, at the same time as setting the standard for your company or clients quality.
